Music Theory lessons with Anna & Charles
For many students, grade 5 theory is the unwanted roadblock in the way of their practical progress. They struggle through, learning by rote things that seem to bear little relation to the music they love to play. This doesn’t have to be the case! When taught right, music theory compliments a student’s playing by helping them to understand the ‘why’ as well as the ‘what’ of music.
As well as incorporating a little theory in to all our lessons, we also offer dedicated music theory lessons, either to work towards an exam or to gain a broader understanding of the music we play. We can prepare students for ABRSM theory exams up to Grade 8 and assist with Music GCSE, A Level or BTEC work. In addition to written work, we also use practical examples from familiar music in order to link up understanding. It’s great to help students see their sheet music in a whole new light, and even start to write their own!
